Ramadan Reflections 1444/2023 Part 13

Rain Upon My Heart

The Qur’an is a Book filled with parables, similitudes and metaphors.

In Surah 41 Al-Fussilat, Verse 39, Allah says…

“And among His signs is that you see the earth devoid/desolate of life, but as soon as We send down rain upon it, it begins to stir ˹to life˺ and swell. Indeed, the One Who revives it can easily revive the dead. He is certainly Most Capable of everything.”

Reflections

1. Each verse is known as an ‘ayah and within each ayah, are further symbols and signs for those who reflect, contemplate and understand with their hearts.

2. The earth has become still and desolate, without signs of life, just like our hearts over the other 11 months of the year.

3. Then the rain comes down from the sky, as a Mercy from Allah, and the land begins to quiver, come back to life and florish, so that lush vegetation can grow and provide much needed oxygen to the earth and sustenance to the creatures who live therein.

4. Just as Allah revives the dead earth with rain, so can He revive dead hearts with The Revelation of The Qur'an. And He will revive the dead to life again for the Day of Standing. This is a promise.

5. Bringing the dead to life is a recurring theme within The Qur’an, so that we may ponder the parables, similitudes and metaphors.

6. In the Month of Ramadan, allow the Mercy, Forgiveness and Salvation to be found in these limited number of days fall upon your heart like rain and let the Revelation of the Qur'an bring your heart back to life.

7. Ramadan is the time of Resuscitation, of Revival, of Rejuvenation and of Renewal of the diseased, barren and dead human hearts.

The question is, what is the state (haal) of your heart today?

والله أعلم
